Early-stage Researchers Programme
The Early-stage Researchers Programme enables selected candidates funding of doctoral studies, employment in a research environment and thus, beside the in-depth knowledge of doctoral studies, also the development of research competencies and skills. The Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency provides the selected candidates funding of salaries, social security contributions, doctoral studies or material and immaterial costs for a maximum of 4 years for the doctoral study programme.
Information on vacancies offered by the University of Maribor, conditions and selection criteria are published in the public call for early-stage researcher candidates, the first deadline for publication of which is 15 March (or the first working day of the following year if this is a public holiday) of each year.
Recognition and Evaluation of Education Obtained Outside the Republic of Slovenia
The Act on the Evaluation and Recognition of Education (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 87/11, 97/11 – corr., 109/12 in 12/26) distinguishes between recognition and evaluation of education. Procedures for the evaluation and recognition of education are intended for individuals who wish to use education obtained abroad in Slovenia, either for employment purposes (evaluation of education) or for the purpose of continuing education (recognition of education). Evaluation procedures are carried out by the ENIC‑NARIC Centre at the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth. Recognition procedures for the purpose of continuing education are carried out by educational institutions as part of their admission procedures. According to Article 2 of the Act on the Evaluation and Recognition of Education, recognition of education for the purpose of continuing education is a procedure in which, on the basis of education completed abroad, a decision is made on an individual’s right to apply and be considered in admission procedures at educational institutions in the Republic of Slovenia. Evaluation of education is a procedure in which, based on the completed education demonstrated by an educational certificate, an opinion is issued on various elements of the education, as defined in Article 8 of this Act.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Doctoral Networks (MSCA-DN)
Since 1996, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) is one of the main instruments of the European Union for the promotion of excellence in science as part of the international and cross-sectoral mobility in doctoral education. It enables selected candidates funding of doctoral studies, employment in a research environment and thus, beside the in-depth knowledge of doctoral studies, also the development of research competencies and skills. Physical mobility is a condition: the selected candidate must not have worked or resided in the country of the host research organisation for more than 12 months in the three (3) years prior to the deadline for submission of proposals.
