About Research Infrastructure
High-quality and modern research infrastructure is one of the key prerequisites for conducting excellent research, developing new knowledge and technologies, and strengthening collaboration between research organisations, industry and the wider community.
The University of Maribor develops and upgrades its research infrastructure in order to provide appropriate conditions for high-quality and internationally competitive research activities. This infrastructure includes state-of-the-art research equipment, specialised laboratories, and other research facilities.
An important principle underlying the development of the University of Maribor’s research infrastructure is open access, which enables researchers at the University of Maribor and other users to make use of research equipment and infrastructure, while fostering interdisciplinary and inter-institutional cooperation.
The University’s research infrastructure is organised according to the following European Research Council (ERC 2021-2022) domains:
- PE Physical Sciences and Engineering;
- LS Life Sciences;
- SH Social Sciences and Humanities.

BRIUM is an open-access online platform that offers a comprehensive overview of the University of Maribor’s research infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on research equipment. It promotes collaboration between researchers, research groups, industry, and the broader academic community.
Infrastructure programmes and projects
GIGA Nuclear Magnetic Resonance – GIGA NMR
The project “GIGA Nuclear Magnetic Resonance – GIGA NMR”, funded under the European Cohesion Policy Programme 2021–2027 and the STEP priority, is aimed at establishing and upgrading nationally strategic research infrastructure in the field of nuclear magnetic resonance to support the development of critical technologies, particularly in biotechnology, biopharmacy, and other advanced industries.
