In the recent time of knowledge society, which is based on fast technological changes, innovations and growing competiveness, and due to decline in public funding for education and research in the higher education, obtaining EU funds are an additional source of co-financing research, development, investment and other projects.
In order to be succesfull in obtaining the EU funds and other funds from the market, it is necessary to have proper information, knowledge, skills and competencies when preparing project applications and managing projects. For this purpose the Department for research and art was reorganized and divided into 3 offices in 2011: Project Office, Office for UM researchers' and projects' support and Office for international co-operation and mobility programmes.
The Project office and Office for UM researchers' and projects' support offer the following services to the faculties:
- Searching for the proper calls and tenders, giving advice and information on open calls and tenders, examining open calls and tenders.
- Examining possibilities, advising on selection of sources, offering administrative and technical support to researchers on the faculties in the process of applying for projects.
- Professional assistance and advice in the preparation of the financial construction of the project
- Educational workshop
- Project coordination and management.
The Project office also applies for “own” projects that are important and in the interest of the whole University of Maribor (e.g. career centres project).
