Research Infrastructure Upgrade RIUM

UM is currently implementing a major infrastructural project, RIUM, for the acquisition of new state-of-the-art scientific research equipment, which will be placed in existing facilities of the University. This equipment will significantly upgrade the existing research infrastructure in the following research fields that the UM prioritizes: Advanced Materials and Technologies, Health and Safe Food, Smart Energy Systems, Smart Circular Systems.

The investment will provide the researchers at the UM and other Slovenian researchers with access to the latest scientific research equipment, following the principle of open access. Scientific research capacities that the researchers' work is based on will thus be substantially enhanced. The RIUM equipment will also contribute to increasing the scale and quality of R&D projects and significantly add to a wider development of specific human resources, since it will be widely accessible for education and training purposes.

RIUM is a directly approved project in response to a call by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport. It follows a comprehensive vision of international competitiveness of research, innovation and technological development in accordance with fields of Slovenian Smart Specialization Strategy (S4). To the UM, RIUM represents the realization of the first investment project of a wider set Innovative Open Technology (IOT) programme. Since researchers' needs for scientific research equipment are significantly higher, the UM plans an upgrade through investments projects RIUM 2 and INNOVUM.
