For a complete European Digital Single Market, effectively enabling the cross-border exercise by citizens and businesses of their Single Market rights, Member States must address several challenges on delivering better services.
To identify possible solutions for these challenges, a three-year international project DE4A – Digital Europe for All, was launched in January 2020, where University of Maribor also participates in it. The goal of the project is to support the European Union in building an European Single Digital Market.
DE4A is an international Member State-driven pilot project (Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Slovenia, Lithuania, Austria, Sweden, Portugal, Denmark, Greece, Romania) aligned with strategic eGovernment Action Plan 2016-2020, the Tallinn Declaration and the European Interoperability Framework (EIF) Implementation Strategy. University of Maribor (Faculty or Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) is involved in the project alongside with 27 project partners from mentioned 11 EU Member States. The project coordinator from the University of Maribor is Assist. Prof. Muhamed Turkanović, PhD. The DE4A project is 100 % financed by the EU Horizon 2020 program in the amount of 8 mil. EUR.
The project thrives to create a culture of co-creation, transparency, accountability, trustworthiness, and aims to realize the once-only and relevant-only digital principles through state-of-the-art, usable and high-quality fully online procedures accessible through the Single Digital Gateway (SDG).
The goal of the project is also to facilitate the migration towards the European Digital Public Services, which aim to ensure the increased trust into cross-border, cross-sector public services with different participants, increased effectiveness and decreased administrative burdens and costs.
The focus of the project is set up an open and comprehensive platform for public administrations and innovations, fully complied with regulations, such as GDPR, eIDAS, Services Directive, which establishes a culture of co-creation, transparency, accountability and trustworthiness.
University of Maribor will, through the Blockchain Lab:UM group (operating under the Institute of Informatics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) in cooperation with the Computer Center of the University (RCUM), participate in the analysis, evaluation and design of Blockchain technology, and its integration with technical regulatory solutions, such as eIDAS, eID, etc.
Project was lunched with a two-day kick-off meeting held on January 28-30, 2020 in Madrid.
