This is supported by the high ranking our university secured in the international ranking of universities, which shows the quality of our study process. I would like to use this opportunity and this very positive news to thank all who contributed a significant piece to the mosaic of our success. Let this be our encouragement to work even better in the future," said the Rector of the University of Maribor, prof. Igor Tičar, PhD, after the rankings were announced.
“At the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the University of Maribor we constantly strive for research, teaching and professional excellence in our activities. We therefore accept our international recognition and evaluation with even greater pride and honour, especially since these rankings are one of the most important university rankings on a global scale. In addition to our results, we are very excited about the substantive contribution of our work and our faculty to the reputation and importance of the University of Maribor, and to the economic and general development of our environment. We are well aware that such success is possible only with long-term work and we therefore take it as additional recognition of our excellent research work, which dates back to 2007 when UM was ranked in the top 1 % of the best institutions around the world in the subject of physics under the Thompson Reuters Essential Science Indicator. I would like to congratulate my colleagues for their remarkable effort and offer my sincere congratulations for their success," added the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, assist. prof. Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) is the leading global provider of specialist higher education and careers information. Activities of QS span over 50 countries and they work with over 2000 of the world's leading higher education institutions. Their website QS Top Universities is among the most visited websites with higher education information. QS publishes various annual rankings of universities and their study programmes. The rankings are mostly intended for future students, helping them to make a well-informed and reasoned choice of university. QS ranks university performance on the basis of six performance indicators across the following areas: research, teaching, employability and internationalization. Each of the six indicators carries a different weighting when calculating the overall scores. The performance indicator with the highest impact on the overall score of a university and its study programmes is the academic reputation of a university (40 % of the overall score) and employer reputation (10 % of the overall score). QS collects data by means of an international survey among employees of higher education institutions and experts on higher education (76,000 responses), and a survey among employers (38,000 responses) who report employer satisfaction data for the alumni of individual universities.
