Dr. Zoran Ren received the professional title University graduate in Mechanical Engineering in 1987 and the scientific title Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1990. In 1994, he was promoted to Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Wales, Swansea College, Great Britain. The decision regarding the academic recognition of the doctorate diploma awarded by the University of Wales was issued on 29 June 1994 at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Maribor. This way, the foreign diploma was recognised to be equal to the doctorate diploma in Engineering Science obtained at a Faculty in the Republic of Slovenia.
Dr. Zoran Ren has been employed at the University of Maribor since 1987. At first, as a young researcher until 1992 in the former Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering. Later, in the years 1992-1995 as an assistant, in 1995-2000 as an assistant Professor and in 2000-2005 as an associate Professor in the fields Machine Elements, Construction and Tribology as well as Mechanics. Since 2005, he is the full Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Maribor in the fields Construction and Mechanics. In the academic year 2017/2018, he is the convenor of nine courses under the first- and second-cycle study programmes Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics and Environmental Engineering as well as of two courses under the doctoral study programme Mechanical Engineering. He is the head of the doctoral study programme Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. Zoran Ren is an expert in complex computer modelling and simulations, high-performance calculations, modelling of fast transients in solids, machine elements construction as well as development and characterisation of cellular metamaterials. His bibliography comprises of more than 1000 bibliographical units, detailed data is available at http://splet02.izum.si/cobiss/bibliography?code=08779&langbib=slv&formatbib=1&wos=on. He is the head of the Laboratory for complex engineering simulations and experimenting (LACE-X) as well as of the national research programme Design of cellular structures. He is successfully cooperating with the industry, especially in the field of ensuring road safety. Since 2000, he is Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow, the receiver of the 21st Century CoE Award at the Osaka University, Japan, as well as the IROAST Visiting Professor at the Kumamoto University, Japan. He was the visiting researcher at the University of Wales, Swansea College, Great Britain, at the Delft University of Technology, Netherlands, as well as at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany. He delivered 37 invited lectures at various universities worldwide.
