University of Maribor, composed by 17 faculties, offers undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes. Undergraduate courses of study, offered by the University of Maribor and its member faculties, lead to the award of diploma. Undergraduate study programmes are academic or professionally oriented, in slovenian higher education sphere we call them also 1st degree study programmes and they last three to four years, depending on the field of study and its specifics.
University of Maribor concluded adapting its study programmes according to the requirements of the Bologna Declaration. Since the academic year 2010/2011 University of Maribor is enrolling only students in Bologna study programmes. Study programmes are offered by the faculties as full time or part time studies.
Within the university, we are using European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) which enables students to perform their study obligations also abroad, selection of subjects from other study programmes at the University of Maribor (credit system study and University of Maribor) and joining the national mobility.
When graduating, students receive, along with a diploma, a diploma supplement, issued in Slovene and one of official EU languages, both free of charge. The diploma supplement’s purpose is to state student’s study achievements when searching for employment.
In the academic year 2019/2020, university members implemented 28 vocational Bologna programmes, 49 academic programmes (1st degree study programmes), 2 uniform master's study programmes, 70 second-cycle (master's) programmes and 35 doctoral programmes.
In the academic year 2019/2020 , a total of 13.376 were enrolled at University of Maribor (9.576 undergraduate and 3.800 postgraduate).
Up to 10% of the enrolment places for full-time study are available for Slovenians without Slovenian citizenship and for foreign citizens, in accordance with the number of available enrolment places for Slovenian citizens and for citizens of the EU-member states. Up to 50% of the enrolment places are available for part-time study.
